A unique escape

Wildlife
All year round, Steep Holm is home to a wide variety of wildlife. From common bird species to more rare sightings of things like our Peregrine Falcon. We are also home to seals, Muntjac deer and a wide range of insects and butterflies.

History
There is significant evidence that the island was used by the Vikings, Romans and 12th Century Monastics. The British army occupied it from the mid 1800's and during the second World War.

Nature
Of the 260 or so plant species recorded on Steep Holm over an astonishing four centuries, depending on the season you may see Wild Wallflower, Stinking Iris, Feverfew, Weld, Ox-eye Daisy and Hemlock to name but a few.
